Exciting news, I have been offered a weeks exhibition space in the Upper waiting Room of the House of commons. In 2020 I received the Re Emergence bursary from Surrey Disability Arts DAiSY. I was asked what my goals were for the project. At that time I had no idea what artwork I would conceive or make, but I knew that it would be about disability oppression. I stated one of my goals was to get the work in parliament. This was received with astonishment and disbelief. However here I am four years later making preparations for a week of my exhibition Artists and Disability Oppression Up Close and Intensive an installation of 14 Painted and embroidered panels in the Upper Waiting Room of the Houses of Commons in May. This is very challenging and is reminding me of many of the artists and disability oppressions.  I achieved a solo exhibition of this work in Folkestone at The Brewery Tap UCA Project space last year with the help of U CA. See my blog post 25.4.23. http://www.disability arts.online/blog/ lesley-illingworth/ My challenge now is that I have an exhibition space with no walls, I need to become a contractor for the Houses of Commons to deliver my work and I have very limited finance to achieve this project.
